ALF:
The demand for data science innovation is growing across all sectors. Data scientists typically create data workflows manually or by writing scripts to automate parts of the process. However, basic scripting is insufficient for large-scale projects and performance optimizations. This poses great technical challenges for data scientists. In this paper, we present the Automated Low-code Flexible (ALF) Framework, designed to remove technical barriers and streamline data workflows. ALF also provides a holistic view of workflow construction and end-to-end workflow management.

COVID-19 Projects:
During the pandemic, we proposed and developed an innovative AI-based COVID-19 exposure risk assessment. The exposure risk score was calculated by overlaying personal health data and travel/contact history with public region-based outbreak reports without exposing the privacy of a user. This was a key feature in the Brightshare COVID-19 tracking app (developed with Brightsquid and launched in the Apple App Store in 2021). We also developed a COVID-19 data engine to analyze AHS and public data. We used the engine to answer clinical questions defined by doctors (e.g., positive test results, severity of symptoms, chance of complications, outbreak forecast). Privacy and ethics regulations with AHS currently restrict publication of the results. However, we released the engine as an open-source software for public use.
